Things to Do on the Water in New Orleans

Water is one of the most important parts of life in NOLA. Not only is it what makes the gorgeous marsh so green and beautiful, but it brings countless hours of fun and entertainment to anyone who seeks it out.

If you’re in the Big Easy and you want to have some fun in the water, you’re not alone! These are some of the most entertaining things to do on the water in New Orleans!

Check Out Woldenberg Park

Woldenberg Park will blow you away! The views are to die for, and while you’re here, you can boat, fish, and have as much fun as you want! Because of the thick mud and the high current, it’s generally advised that you don’t swim here, but there are tons of things to do besides that!

The rentable boats and awesome entertainment will make sure you never get bored. In the summer, there are even live shows where you can catch music played by locals.

Go Kayaking and Boating

Boating is fun regardless of what part of New Orleans you’re in! Whether you want to paddle through the rivers and streams in New Orleans City Park or you’d rather enjoy the surrounding rivers and lakes, there’s a lot of fun here.

If you bring your own kayak, hose it off before you visit and again before you go back home. Boats are a quick way to breed things like barnacles and plant life that can end up being invasive or dangerous.

Enjoy a Jazz Cruise

If you want some easy relaxation after a long week of looking at New Orleans houses for sale, it’s time to go on a jazz cruise! Jazzy cruises allow visitors to float along the river or open water and listen to some of the best music in the city. Some even double as tours, inviting you to learn about the area and get to know the history a little bit.

There are some dinner cruises and others that also have live music, so look for one that suits your needs!

Go for an Airboat Ride

Airboats are a unique experience you can’t find anywhere but the south! These are boats with massive fans on the back that propel them forward over the water. This allows these boats to travel faster through marsh and rough terrain without getting muck stuck in a motor. If you’re a thrill seeker, go for an airboat ride!

Have Fun River Tubing

River tubing takes water fun to another level! Ride along the river in an inflated tube, and enjoy taking in the beautiful surroundings. There are multiple companies that rent out inflatable tubes and have routes you can take, but have fun with it! Make sure not to go alone, and have a buddy with you in case something happens. Although you may be a great swimmer, the rivers around here get wild, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Water is Life!

Water is one of the most exciting parts of visiting any coastal city! New Orleans will blow you away with everything there is to see and do waterside here.
